Welsh cakes is a part of Welsh culture and tradition, so why not bring a taste of Wales to your home?

If you have never tried one before, you are missing a lot! if you have, but don’t know how to make one, let me show you following these easy steps!

What you will need:-

 225g (8oz) self raising flour

pinch salt

55g white cooking fat

55g margarine

85g caster sugar

85g currants

1 egg (beaten)

3 teaspoons of milk (optional)

Caster sugar- for dusting (optional)

And here’s how to make Welsh cakes!

Sift flour and salt into a bowl. Rub in white fat and margarine until the mixture looks similar to breadcrumbs, then add sugar and currants and stir.

Add egg and little bit of milk to make a soft dough (but not sticky). On a floured surface roll the dough out make sure it is about 1/4 inches thick. Then cut the dough into rounds with a  plain or fluted cutter around 6cm wide.

After your done, grease a griddle or frying pan and then add them in, cook the cakes over a low heat for about 3 minutes on each side making sure both sides are golden brown.

Allow the Welsh cakes to cool before serving, you may add caster sugar to make an even sweeter taste (or you could add sweeteners), personally I find it sweet enough, so I just add spread butter on top of my Welsh cakes.

And there you go! you have made an easy tasty mouth watering traditional Welsh cakes!
