I admit up front that after a twenty year athletic career, I had never heard of fast twitch muscle fibers. Landing in a desk job, I got really worried about getting old fast, and losing my muscle tissue. Trouble was, I didn’t know how I got it in the first place, and I didn’t know much about workout routines.

I started with the usual cardio exercises, not realizing that I was following a path of workout routines that had never been medically researched. So I hope I can help you and save you lost time in doing the ineffective workout routines, by sharing a few things I’ve discovered.

Whether you are doing cardio exercises or strength training, you are mostly using the fast twitch muscle fibers.

About Muscle Fibers

There are four types: 1 Slow Type and 3 Fat types.

Slow Twitch Muscle Fibers are great for endurance, and are engaged in lower intensity workout routines.

The fastest of the fast twitch muscle fibers are the ones that will require the most energy, and the ones that take the most strategy to get activated. But there is a way to do it.

There is a very small number of exercise gurus and doctors that even understand this and talk about it. They don’t agree on everything 100%, but they definitely agree that activating the fast twitch muscle fibers is key.

The health benefits of this specific muscle use:

  • exhausting, or fully loading the muscles with as much force or weight they can take triggers increase in the size of the fibers
  • increases the use of insulin in the muscles
  • leaves you burning body fat for hours after working out
  • only takes 12-15 minutes every few days
  • is the most effective exercise for weight loss

You can adapt the exercises you already know, in a way that challenges your muscles, and also increases your heart and lung capacity. You just have to learn how, and it’s easy. What you will UNlearn is that you must do 30-60 minutes of cardio every day to stay healthy.
