American Flag Myths and Facts

american flag history

Every 4th of July, I take a few moments to myself to reflect back on the history of our Nation. I think about the American Flag and all the men and women who have gave their life to protect our Nation, flag, and our freedoms. When I think about the American Flag, I focus on every color, every stripe, and every star. Each stitch sewn into an American Flag is done with care, love, and dedication.

Sure, there are American Flags mass produced, and cheaply made from over sea factories. Those American Flags are not the ones I am thinking of or talking about. The American Flags that inspire me are the ones made right here at home. By hard working Americans who take pride in the work they do and the product they put out. American Flags made here at home are special. They are made by the people who would die to protect it’s values. Are you one of those people? I am! Have a Happy 4th of July and stay safe!

American Flag Myths and Facts

Myth: There is a myth that the very first American Flag “The Betty Ross Flag” was made for George Washington by Betty Ross.

Fact: There is no official record of Betty Ross ever making a red and white striped flag with round stars as a gift for George Washington. This myth came into existence in 1890 when the grandson of Betty Ross spoke to a Historical Society group and claimed Betty Ross sewn the first flag for George Washington.

What Does The American Flag Mean To Me?

Americans love the American Flag. We fly our flag proudly in every school, shopping mall, courthouse, county, and state across our great nation. To me the American Flag represents the diversity of the United States. The United States is a country made up of every other nation in the world. We are a country full of all races of humans. Some are light colored skin, some are dark colored skin. Some are tall and some are short. We have fat Americans and skinny Americans. To me, that is what the colors of the American Flag stands for. Diversity!

Take a few moments as this 4th of July approaches and we celebrate another year of freedom, another year of liberty, and another year of the pursuit of happiness.
