Camping With Your Dog
Take Your Dog Camping
You don’t have to leave your dog at home when you go camping, or visit the lake or on vacation. Many national and state parks allow pets, with a few rules of course. There are some hints and tips to making your camping trip comfortable and easy for both you and your dog.
You won’t forget the basics for your pup such as food and water, but you might not think of tie outs and even a tent or shelter for your pet to get out of the sun and into their own den to sleep. Camping and hiking with your dog is more fun than going by yourself and you may find that it’s even more enjoyable to enjoy the outdoors with your four legged friend.
Tents for Dogs
Dog Tents and Playpens
Make sure to give your dog a place in the shade to lay down and sleep. They get hot and tired and don’t always want to be in the middle of the camping activity. Elevated tents get them off the hard ground and are more comfortable for older dogs.
Portable playpens for dogs are perfect for small canines, such as terriers, Yorkies, poodles, pups and other miniature pups, and will give them freedom to play without the worry of them running off and getting lost.

Hiking With Your Dog
The Best Way to Hike With Your Dog
Hiking with your dog is fun and enjoyable, if you are prepared. First know where dogs are allowed on the trails, use an appropriate leash or lead, carry water for not only you but your dog, and wear proper footwear. There are many hand-free dog leads available for joggers and work well for hiking.
You wear hiking shoes and your dog should also wear foot protection. My friend who has a Jack Russell cross literally wore the pads off his feet after a 12 mile hike in the Colorado Rockies. He just kept going and going jumping over rocks and by the end of the day he was limping and bleeding.

Depending on the length of your hike you may want to have your dog carry his own supplies with a dog backpack. Fido can carry his collapsible dog bowls, treats and toys in a lightweight saddlebag.
Dog Friendly Tie Outs
Dog Tie Outs and Cables
You don’t want to hold your dog on a leash the whole time and these pet tie outs are perfect to push into the ground and let your dog have a little more freedom. Cable tie outs are also ideal for pet owners who don’t have fenced yards but yet want their dog to have a little freedom in the yard. Obviously supervision is recommended, pups have a habit of wrapping the cables around trees, picnic trees and even getting themselves tangled.

Don’t Loose Your Dog While Camping
Never Loose Your Dog Again
The biggest fear when camping with your dog is loosing your dog in the woods or the wilderness. Not only are you remote but you are far from home without recognizable landmarks for your dog to find his way home. In this day of technology there is NO REASON why any dog should get lost again.
GPS technology and the pet industry has merged to create GPS dog tags and smart phone technology to actively track your dog anywhere in the country from around your block to the other side of the lake. Many of these trackable dog dogs are waterproof and contain QR codes for easy access to your contact information.

Pick Up Your Dog Poop
Hike With Your Dog Responsibly
Last but not least you HAVE to clean up your dogs poop when camping and hiking. No one likes to pick up dog waste, but people like to step in it even less. It’s not only unsightly, but it’s unhealthy for native wildlife, and rude. it’s easy to carry doggie waste bags and there many options for eco-friendly bags that are even lavender scented for sensitive noses.
