I received a thesaurus as a graduation gift from one of my high school teachers. That got the most use of any of my gifts and it still sits on my shelf behind my desk after 40 years or more have passed.
Dictionaries and thesauruses are so important to children these days, it seems the english language is not that important to be taught. They need to broaden their vocabularies and these will certainly help.
I still use my dictionary even though I am not a student anymore :) I still remember my boys first dictionary.
