How to Get Your Dog to Wear a Dog Rider

Start Practicing Early!

The first thing you need to do is to buy a dog harness. A soft nylon one is perfect. Starting a few weeks before Halloween, put the harness on your dog. If he or she has a problem with it, then try to take their mind off of it by playing with them. Roughhousing and ball tossing is usually the best play to get them to ignore the harness. Leave it on for an hour or so. Do this a couple times a day for a few days, until your dog is used to wearing the harness.

Next, start taking him or her for walks on a leash, wearing the harness. Make sure to teach them not to tug. About a week before Halloween, substitute the Dog Rider for the harness. Again, make sure to keep your dogs mind off of the harness and Rider by playing with him. Only leave it on a short time, a couple times a day at first, then lengthen the time to a couple hours by Halloween.

Once they are used to wearing a harness, try the Dog Rider. Make sure you play and roughhouse with your dog while he is wearing it to keep his mind off it. Keep working with your dog, daily, until they will wear the dog rider while walking of a leash without even noticing it. Now you are ready for Halloween.
