The Elf on the Shelf is a magical phenomenon! The delightful book and elf was introduced in 2005 – and since then, more and more families have adopted this new Christmas tradition.

The Elf on the Shelf adds an extra dose of fun all through the holidays as the antics of these little guys will keep you laughing and taking pictures until he/she leaves on Christmas eve.

His activities and adventures are limited only by your imagination. Open your heart just a little. Become a child for a while this Christmas and enjoy the magic of the Elf on the Shelf. You will be so glad you did!

Let the Tradition Begin!

The Elf on the Shelf tradition begins the first night you read the book to your children, watch the DVD and name your elf. At that moment, your elf becomes magical and he must never ever be touched by human hands after that time. The elf watches the children in your home all through the Christmas season and reports to Santa. When the children are sleeping, he is allowed to play. Oh my! It’s always a surprise to look for the elf in the mornings and see what he has been doing. Your children might find him hanging from the chandelier, or hiding in a sock drawer or sometimes just sitting in the Christmas tree enjoy the decorations.

When Santa arrives on Christmas eve, the elf jumps in the sleigh with Santa and returns to the North Pole.
The best time to introduce the Elf is anytime in November or December. For many families in the US, the elf arrives around Thanksgiving.

It is exciting news indeed! Now there is a girl Elf on the Shelf and she is adorable! She is just as mischievous the little boy elves, but maybe not quite as messy — most of the time. She is very unpredictable. But I think if you look at her very carefully, you can study her personality before you name her. She is indeed one of my favorite Elf on the Shelf Ideas this year.

PS — sometimes her personality is very much like your little girl’s personality! Santa is a character! He makes these assignments, you know.
