George Nelson Contemporary Wall Clocks

You can add a really nice touch of the contemporary, modern or retro style to your home or office decor with a quality George Nelson clock like those you’ll see here. These clock designs of the mid century are awesome! They are so clever and unique in design and materials, so I decided I would share my love and knowledge on this subject with you.

A successful American designer, George Nelson created classic clocks that were as iconic and popular decades ago as they are today, using solid colors and bold forms in unique, eye-catching and compelling timepieces.

George Nelson was born in Hartford Connecticut in 1908. He died in NYC in 1986. His schooling was at Yale University and he graduated in 1928 attaining a BA degree in fine arts in 1931. His contemporaries, who are well known around the world today, were Elliot Noyes, Charles Eames and Walter Ford, whom he won the Rome Prize with. This group of men achieved high status as individuals who were part of a generation of architects that did few high quality works of art instead of quantity. Each project was highly successful in product, graphics and interior design. We think of George Nelson and Charles Eames as one of the founding fathers of American Modernism. We like to think of George Nelson as “The Creator of Beautiful and Practical Things.” George Nelson’s clocks today look like they did more than 50 years ago but they have been updated with the best modern time keeping mechanisms.

Here, you’ll find a variety of George Nelson inspired styles, from starburst and sunburst clocks to “zoo timers,” eye-shaped clocks and more. Maybe you will see something on these reviews that catches your own eye to buy for your home or as a cool retro-modern gift.
