What is a Gourmand Perfume Fragrance?

Gourmand perfumes are sometimes referred to as “foodie fragrances”. They contain edible notes that are delicious and succulent. The French word “gourmand” means a food glutton, so the name of these delightful scents is just perfect! These perfumes are not really edible but give off an almost edible desire. These delectable top notes are accompanied by non-edible base notes, such as musk or patchouli. Flavor, the inextricable bond between taste and smell, is what makes these perfumes so appealing.

Gourmand Fragrances Origination

Angel by Thierry Mugler, was launched in 1992 and is widely accepted as the first gourmand fragrance. It has delicious notes of chocolate and carmel. A study was done in 1994 by Dr. Alan Hirsch at the Chicago Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, which seemed to prove that these particular perfume notes were more enticing to men than the other forms of notes. So opened the door for more company perfumes and fragrances to appear on the market, which include Matin Calin by Comptoir Sud Pacifique, Butterfly by Hanae Mori, Lolita Lempicka by Lolita Lempicka, Wish by Chopard, Pink Sugar by Aquolina, Euphoria by Calvin Klein, Pure Purple by Hugo Boss, Vanilla Extreme by Comptoir Sud Pacifique, and many others.

Types of Gourmand Scent Notes

Confectionary – Scents of desserts, candies, and anything that is of a sweet delicacy nature.

Exotic/Oriental – Exotic notes paired with vanilla that are native to an exoctic foreign land.
