The Best Halloween Trail Mix Recipe

I’m sharing a Halloween trail mix recipe with you that will brighten up your autumn days.  As we wistfully let go of summer and welcome the crisp days of autumn, we know that  Halloween is not far behind.  Time to locate the Halloween decorations and think about Halloween costumes.  It’s time to get out your recipe binder and plan some Halloween food!

This Halloween trail mix recipe is easy and fun.  Keep it on hand during October for friends that drop in and for after school snacks for the kids.  Make up a batch of this Halloween trail mix recipe and take it to work to share with your co-workers.  Take it to a party or a potluck.  Take trail mix with you for energy when you go hiking.

Halloween is the time when we maybe indulge in too much candy.  Trail mix can include candy but it doesn’t have to.  There are healthy substitutions you can make if you want to reduce the sugar load this year.  I’ll give you some ideas for that.  You can also choose low fat and low salt versions of the ingredients for trail mix.

Halloween Trail Mix Recipes

We start with a basic trail mix recipe.

1 cup salted peanuts
1 cup raisins
1 cup M&Ms

Mix together in a sealed bag and you’re done!

You probably want something a little more decorative for your Halloween trail mix recipe.  The trick is to mix up some sweet and salty food items.  The treat is in how pretty it looks and how good it tastes!

1 cup mini pretzel twists
1 cup cheese Goldfish crackers
1 cup honey roasted peanuts
1 cup dried fruit such as raisins, dried apricots, or your preference
1/2 cup Halloween M&Ms

Shake it up together in a sealed bag.

If you are one of those people (like me) who has recipes jotted down on scraps of paper and clipped out of newspapers and scattered all over the place, you need a recipe binder!
