How I Kicked My Coke Habit and Addiction
How I stopped Drinking Coca-Cola
I absolutely loved Coca-Cola, so much that I wouldn’t even drink Pepsi when offered. I loved the bite of the carbonation, and I felt almost a craving if I had not had a bottle by the end of the day. So you could call it an addiction, not to narcotics, but to something unhealthy just the same. I had a 20 oz bottle every day, without fail, sometimes twice a day.
Sometimes I had a Coke for breakfast if I stopped for gas in the morning. Several times I tried to quit, many times during Lent, I thought it would be an added incentive to be more accountable. Every time I failed.
I knew the sugar wasn’t good for me, I had seen the videos of what pop does to your body and how Coca-Cola removes rust from car batteries. But, I still had no will power. I don’t know if it was the caffeine, or the carbonation, but I HAD to stop.
This year I was successful.
How I Weaned Myself Off Coke
Decrease Sugar Intake by Starting with Pop
I knew that going cold turkey was not going to work this time. So I gradually decreased to a Coke just on weekends. Then I started substituting with Sprite or another clear carbonated drink. During the day I tried to drink more water.
The two biggest reason why Coca Cola is unhealthy include the EIGHT teaspoons of sugar per can and the phosphoric acid (which provides the carbonation kick). Consuming eight, 16, or 24 teaspoons of sugar, or corn syrup, per day is attributed to the increase of Type 2 diabetes and obesity. High consumption of phosphoric acid can wear away your dental enamel and interfere with the absorption of calcium leading to osteoporosis.

Healthy Caffeine Alternative
I Found a Caffeine Substitute
Sometimes I wish I were a coffee drinker, but I’m not. It smells delicious, and I have tried it various times and still turn up my nose at the taste. I know, coffee aficionados are cringing at the thought. My parents both drank coffee and two of my kids drink java juice.
During our weekly Bible study, my friend had an offering of teas, one was Twinning Berry Black Tea. It look interesting, I followed her example of using liquid stevia in her cup and made me a cup of tea. Wow!! It was delicious! I even had a second cup. I was hooked!

The Keurig is My Favorite Appliance
I am Hooked on Keurig
In addition to being jealous of coffee drinkers and how much they love different types of coffee brews I also craved a Keurig, but couldn’t justify buying one, since my husband and I don’t drink coffee.
For Christmas we received a Keurig and I couldn’t be more excited! Flavored teas, custom hot chocolates, and various other hot beverages. I amd even excited about hot water on demand, because I am too lazy, and ADD to wait for a kettle to boil. Yeah, that’s a weakness.

I Love Fun Travel Mugs
I fix tea every morning and drink it on my way to work during my commute. My favorite travel mug is my camera lens cup my son gave me for Christmas several years ago. It’s very appropriate since I work at a professional photo printing lab.

Drinking Tea is Fun
My Keurig delivers hot water on demand and I use this function more than the brewing option. The cabinet above holds my tea bags and I am looking forward to trying some loose teas and these fun looking tea infusers. Who wouldn’t want a manatee brewing tea in the morning? Or a sloth hanging on your cup?
