Marilyn Monroe was born June 1 1926 as Norma Jeane Mortenson but was raised as Norma Jeane Baker. Marilyn spent her early childhood in foster care sending time with several different foster families. Marilyn Monroe is truly an American success story that was filled with mystery and controversy and her legacy lives on yet today.

Marilyn’s early life was much like any other Americans at the time she was married in 1942 at a early age in a arranged marriage to Jim Dougherty. While Dougherty served in WWII Marilyn worked at a local factory. It was during this time that she met a photographer and started modeling. It was during this time when she started modeling that she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe, dyed her hair from brunette to blonde and began her journey of taking America by storm.

Marilyn began her acting career in 1947 in a role as a telephone operator in a film named The Shocking Miss Pilgrim. Marilyn would appear in over 30 films with such hits like The Asphalt Jungle in 1950,Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in 1953 that she was nominated for best motion picture actress. She was nominated and won many awards during her career including a golden globe,Crystal Star and a David di Donatello award.

Marilyn would go on to have 3 marriages to John Dougherty, Joe Dimaggio and Arthur Miller all ended in divorce. Marilyn was reported to have several affairs including affairs with John and Robert Kennedy. Marilyn later years were filled with illness and personal troubles. On August 5, 1962 Marilyn Monroe died of a acute barbiturate poisoning from a possible suicide. While her death remains a mystery and many suspect murder or a possible cover up.
