Thomas Kinkade was one of the most popular painters in America. Known as the “Painter of Light,” he created more than a 1000 paintings in his life. It is estimated that one in 20 families in the US has a reproduction of his work.

Kinkade tried to create idyllic, pastoral or inspiring work. He presented himself as deeply Christian, and in fact all four of his children have “Christian” as their middle names.

He used unique techniques to create glistening, life filled artwork.

Thomas Kinkade’s Life

Still Known as the Painter of Life

Thomas Kinkade was known for painting from the heart, for bringing both the coziness of the home, and beauties of nature into all his art. He put his entire life savings into the printing of his first lithograph. Over time, through hard work that appealed to many people and shrewd marketing he became the most collected artist in the States.

He was known as a humanitarian, giving widely to children’s charities, hospitals and schools.

But the “Painter of Light” had a dark side.

Like so many creative people, Mr. Kinkade was a drinker.

He fell upon some difficult times. Two years after his wife divorced him, he died. His fans were deeply disturbed to learn that he died from an overdose of Valium and alcohol.

Nonetheless that dark end did not destroy the legacy of a man who gave so much beauty to the world.

I still believe that enjoying a Thomas Kinkade Christmas will be one of your most joyous!
