Waterfire in Providence, RI

Waterfire in Providence, RI is one of the most spectacular events I have ever seen. I saw it for the first time 10 years ago when my husband took me. Back then we where only dating, and what a romantic evening it was. The gondola rides, the walk along the fire-lit river, food, music, and attractions.

This event is both installation and  performance art I would say,  and was created by Barnaby Evans.

Throughout the evening the fire tenders ride ride up and down the river dressed in dark outfits adding wood and caring for the fires. WaterFire’s one hundred sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the fire tenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park which lines the river.
