Wonderbag and Other Non-Electric Slow Cookers
The Wonderbag is the first non-electric Slow Cooker
The WonderBag is a perfect way to cook with a minimum of energy use and still have warm food. Although it is not TOTALLY energy free, the Wonderbag is about as close as you can get.
The way you use the Wonderbag is to just start your dish boiling and put it in the Wonderbag and it will continue cooking the dish to completion. I am talking about finishing cooking something that would up to 8 hours without the use of additional electricity or fuel!
For the modern household the Wonderbag just saves energy and provides delicious home-cooked food with a minimum of energy. We can reduce our electricity bill and feel happy that we are reducing our carbon footprint.
And we can enjoy the benefits of slow-cooked food. Slow cooking actually preserves the nutrients of foods that are cooked. And you will find it is very economical – you will be able to use little bits and pieces of the veggies, beans and meats that you have around.
But for the original recipients of the Wonderbag, it was life changing. In 2008 Sarah Collins created this wonderful invention for the people of South Africa. It has saved lives, provided jobs and reduced the rolling black outs in that area!
